Twitter reacts to orchestrated condolence meeting between Khashoggi’s son and Saudi royals.

Breaking news of Jamal Khashoggi's death sent shockwaves around the world and led to bold headlines that not only raised questions about Jamal's death, but memorialized the man whose activism, writing, and dissidence gave him considerable renown beyond the borders of his home country.

Of course, Twitter was amongst the media who came out fighting following what appeared to be a choreographed meeting between the Saudi crown prince and Jamal Khashoggi's son. In no time flat, the platform's denizens set about deciphering the inscrutable expression on Salah's face as he shook hands with the man who in all likelihood gave orders to have his father terminated.

And the fact that they condescended to a meeting with anyone who's related to Jamal Khashoggi, even as they stumbled from one implausible explanation to another regarding the circumstances of his death, is a clear indication of the Saudi royal court's surprise at the scale of reaction that's been elicited by Jamal's murder.

And while one can expect nothing but obstructionism from those within corridors of power whose interests wouldn't be served by a full disclosure of the true facts of Jamal's murder, it's still unbelievably tone-deaf of the Saudi royals who clearly live in echo chambers of their own making, to think that Jamal Khashoggi's death can be wished away with PR stunts or a preemptive photo between the royals and Jamal Khashoggi's children.
